Hotel booking
Tourism has boomed since the Burmese government began political and economic reforms, and the number of visitors only topped 1 million for the first time in 2012. But the industry has struggled to keep up, and hotel rooms remain expensive due to short supply.
The number of tourists coming to Myanmar exceeded the government’s predictions of 3 million in 2014 and the industry is still struggling to meet visitors’ expectations. Also the new online e-visa system from September 1st 2014 and the Yangon International Airport’s new terminal opened in March 2016 has boosted visitor numbers even further.
According to the official tourism data provided by the Ministry of Hotels & Tourism, in 2015 total tourist arrivals to Myanmar reached approximately 4.68 million. According to the Myanmar Tourism Master Plan, 2013-2020, published by the Ministry of Hotels and Tourism, the country had set ambitious goals to receive 7.48 million annual international tourists by the year 2020.
This all means that I really recommend you to book your hotels in advanced, especially if you come in high season (October – April).
