Myanmar Restaurants

Are you travelling in Myanmar and want to try the authentic food? Check out this map with all the Myanmar restaurants recommended by my friend Simon from Lonely Planet plus some other restaurants I like and have included. If you have any recommendation to include, please let me know.

Myanmar borders Laos, Thailand, China, Bangladesh and India and has been strongly influenced by its powerful neighbours, not only in culture, art and religion, but also in cuisine.

If Asian food is one of the best and most varied in the world, imagine a country with its own delicious cuisine plus a healthy dose of Asian ingredients and cooking styles – including Chinese bean curd and soya sauce, the curries and spices of India, and from Thailand a taste for snacking on fried insects!

A typical meal includes a salad, a curry dish, a dried fish dish, a soup and fresh or boiled vegetables to dip in a salty fish paste sauce. All dishes are served at the same time with rice so you can choose and combine as you want. As for drinks, water and green tea are the most common options and at the end of the meal, jaggery is usually served.

When you travel, it’s all about People, Food and Culture. When you go to Burmese restaurants you have these three elements, so I highly recommend that you try the different cuisines in Myanmar restaurants and teashops. Also, if you are as big a fan as I am about of Myanmar, then you’ll love my book ‘Delicious Myanmar’
